Bismarck Summer School: Camp Ed

As the months of summer continue many parents choose to send their kids to an Edventure Camp, a six week summer school free to grade-school students.

Jean Hall is principle of Jeanette Myre and the summer school coordinator for Camp Edventure in Bismarck.

“All of the activities that the students during the day, of course are not as heavy as it is during the school year; it’s a lot of fun activities, but they are all related to reading and math,” Hall said.

The summer program is funded through the state. Sixty hours of reading and 60 hours of math are required.

“One of the things that we found is the students that attended summer had their learning stayed with them and when fall came they didn’t have to play catch up,” Hall said. “Usually it takes time to get back into the swing of things. The kids that attended summer school had a better start to their learning.”

Hall said anywhere from 1,400 to 1,700 students attend the program each year.

Hall is retiring this summer from Bismarck Public Schools.
