Bismarck’s 14th annual Day of Caring is already breaking records.
The volunteer day is sponsored by Missouri Slope Areawide United Way. Jena Gullo is executive director for MSA United Way.
A record number of volunteers showed up for the event, Gullo said. Nearly 600 people are in the Bismarck area volunteering at various sites.
“Day of Caring is an opportunity for our United Way agencies to have volunteers lend their time and their talents to do any type of needs that the agencies has. A lot of it is manual labor,” Gullo said.
Volunteer sites included homeless shelters, domestic violence shelter, humane society and the zoo.
“There is so much energy. To know that people are taking time off of work, knowing that businesses, so many of them, have given employees a paid day to volunteer in the community and give back,” Gullo said. “Getting everyone’s interest together to give back is one small step, and one piece of the puzzle, with addressing the needs of the community.”
MSA United Way also announced their campaign goal for the next year. She says The goal is to raise more than two million dollars.
