Partners in the development of the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion project have formally enacted an agreement to let work begin on the diversion. Army Corps Project Manager Terry Williams says the diversion has been in development since 2008 and as of today (Monday) bids are being called for on the first portion of the project…

“…Our first contract is supposed to be the diversion inlet structure and that would start construction this fall.”

Williams says the State of North Dakota has granted a permit for the project to begin. The Corps and other officials are continuing to work with Minnesota to secure the needed permits. Williams says work requiring a Minnesota permit is expected to begin in 2019.

Diversion Authority Chairman Darrell Vanyo says the signing ceremony is a milestone marking the completion of many tasks and the beginning of a next phase of development…

“… The PPA will mark the formal beginning of having all partners on-board and committed to the work that lies before us to ultimately complete a project which will ensure that future flood events are non-events.”

Officials expect to see the first shovels in the ground in late October or early November.
