A Bismarck man is dead after being shot by West Dakota SWAT officers in an incident last night.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Riverside Park Road at about 10 pm, after receiving a 9-1-1 call from a neighbor. The caller said there was a lot of sawing and hammering noises, and said he had heard the man say he had a bomb.
There had been two other calls earlier. One was a welfare check, where the man said he had weapons, and would use them if anyone went into his home illegally. The second was from a delivery worker, who told police that man showed a handgun, and claiming he had several more guns.
When officers responded to the residence, the man refused to come out. SWAT negotiators heard a gunshot, and later saw the man shooting a pistol from a second story window. Officers returned fire, and when they entered the residence, they found the man dead.
The man has not been identified. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, pending the investigation, which is standard procedure. BCI is investigating.
