A West Fargo lawmaker has introduced a “flat tax” bill.
Rep. Kim Koppelman (R-West Fargo) said the bill would establish one rate for the state income tax.
The bill sets a two percent rate on the income tax, based on the federal taxable income figure, calculated on your federal return.
"We aren't allowing exemptions, but we are having a high threshold," Koppelman said. "The purpose is not to tax those in lower income brackets any more than they are currently taxed.
Koppelman said he asked that the bill be prepared so it is as neutral as possible, in terms of its impact on taxpayers.
The bill will be heard in the House Finance and Taxation Committee.
