The NDSU Extension in Fargo is hosting several events in April for Child Abuse Prevention Month. The extension is offering a parenting class throughout April. Jeanne Erickson is with the extension.
"The parenting class is called Parenting the Love and Logic Way. It starts next Tuesday, April twelfth and it's gonna run for three weeks from 5:45 to 7:45 pm, and it is held at the Carlson Library in South Fargo. The class is free and you get materials with it. The facilitator is a school counselor and she is amazing. Parents really do enjoy the class. Some of the things that they talk about in this class, it's a great way for parents and caregivers to learn to stay calm while avoiding power struggles and arguments with their children and help establish enforceable limits, and then just raising responsible, cooperative kids."
Erickson says there is also a family event happening at the end of the month.
"We are hosting an event on April 30th, Saturday, from 11:00 to 1:00 pm. It's called Family Affair at the Square, and it's going to be downtown Fargo at Broadway Square, and it's just promoting healthy families. It's going to have family fun activities, face painting, tinsel hair extensions, games, and prizes. We're just wanting to promote just healthy family experience and prevent child abuse."
