October is American Archives Month

October is American Archives Month and the State Archives in Bismarck is hosting several programs to celebrate. Sarah Walker, head of reference services for the State Archives, says the public is invited to sign up for behind the scenes tours of the archives, participate in their social media ask an archivist day, and share their memories with State Archives staff as part of the Flicker Tale oral history project.

"We have an oral history project. The Flicker Tale oral history project is a short form oral history collection and this time we are collecting little interviews about food in North Dakota. Food traditions that I think will be a lot of fun."

The State Archives will also be telling history stories on Prairie Public’s Dakota Datebook throughout the month.

"Everything that we have here documents the history of the people. Without the resources that we have here, there would be a lot less available for people to learn about their past, and our past is what be build on right? It's how we find our way through to the future."
