TruNorth Theatre Company ~ Livestock Grazing ~ Prairie Silence

Monday, August 13 – TruNorth Theatre Company of Bismarck was founded last year in the historic High Prairie Arts Building. Their upcoming show is “Grinder’s Stand,” a fictional dramatization of the last weeks in the life of Meriwether Lewis. Here to tell us about the TruNorth and the current play are artistic director John Clemo, executive director Tim Rosin, and communications director Ashley Schrenk. ~~~ Consumers are buying more certified organic fruits and vegetables every year, and much of it is grown on small farms in the Midwest and Plains states. To comply with organic rules, some use livestock to provide natural fertilizer. Harvest Public Media’s Amy Mayer reports, it’s hard to know exactly how well that works. ~~~ In 2013, we spoke with North Dakota native Melanie Hoffert about her book “Prairie Silence, a rural expatriate’s journey to reconcile home love and faith.” In 2014 the book went on to win the Minnesota Book Award for Memoir and Creative Non-Fiction. Melanie is a native of Wyndmere and a Concordia College graduate. Today we share an encore presentation of our conversation, plus some big news for Melanie that came about because of the book – a marriage scheduled for Saturday!
