Memorial Day

Monday, May 27, 2019 –  On this Memorial Day, we’re remembering those who served. Jennie Hodgers served in the Civil War as Albert Cashier. Producer Linda Paul shares the story. ~~~ Allison Veselka is an assistant curator at the Barnes County Museum. She joined us last year to tell us about an exhibit and lecture called North Dakota Women at War. ~~~ Woodrow Wilson Keeble of the Lake Traverse Reservation rose to the ranks of Master Sargeant, earning many honors, including multiple Purple Hearts. Author Merry Helm learned about his story, and that of other Korean War soldiers for her three-part book series, Prairie Boys at War. We air an excerpt from a conversation in 2014. ~~~ From the Memory Palace podcast, host Nate DeMeio has the story  of Revolutionary War hero, John Paul Jones, and the Civil War hero who found his coffin, 100 years after it had been lost in a Paris cemetery.
