"Women Behind the Plow" ~ Tom Isern ~ "Crop Scouting" ~~~ Dakota Journalists Remember

Tuesday, July 30, 2019 – It began as a book, but “Women Behind the Plow” by Sue Balcom has also inspired a documentary by Prairie Public. It debuts tomorrow with a free screening at the Fargo Theatre, and will appear soon on television. Here to discuss the documentary is the former director of television for Prairie Public, Bob Dambach. ~~~ Tom Isern shares a Plains Folk essay, “The Problem with a Colorful History.” ~~~ Without adequate crop scouting, pests can eat through farmers’ profits. Harvest Public Media’s Amy Mayer tags along with an agronomist to understand how crop scouting works. ~~~ The Dakota Journalists Podcast is an oral history project capturing the stories of long-time journalists in North and South Dakota. Teri Finneman hosts the podcast. Today we share more highlights from episode 4 with stories of getting a start in the newspaper business.
