  • 4/9/2009: Thirty-five years ago today on April 9, 1974, there were no classes at Minnewaukan Public School. Although that Tuesday was not a holiday, nor a storm day, the students had a day off.
  • 3/5/2009: In March of 1909, the citizens of Bismarck were becoming much more mobile, wanting to be as progressive as the rest of the country. As a result, the first automobile advertisement in Bismarck appeared.
  • 1/29/2009: On this day in 1981, Jon Gordon Langseth Jr. was born in Fargo.
  • 1/13/2009: On this day in 1887, Sveinn Kristjan Bjarnarsson was born in Skogarstrond, Iceland. For those familiar with the art world, he is far better known as Holger Cahill.
  • 12/8/2008: In 700 B.C., sesame was the official currency in Greece. The first recorded sesame recipe was written in Latin, for a delicious and tasty dinner of "Roasted Flamingo." But for most in the German Triangle area in North Dakota, the memories of sesame were in the form of-Halvah.

  • 8/1/2008: In northeast North Dakota, in the tiny town of Olga, a life changing event happened to the Monette family. For the first time in 31 years, they had electricity. According to an August 1973 article in the Benson County Press, the Monette's are bowing to the progress of electricity-not out of want, but out of need.
