A member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe will likely be the Democratic NPL candidate for Congress.
Chase Iron Eyes is an attorney who has been active in Native American rights issues. He would run against incumbent Republican Kevin Cramer, who is expected to be renominated this weekend.
Iron Eyes says he feels Cramer is out of touch with a significant part of North Dakota.
"I feel our representative is out of touch," Iron Eyes said in an interview with Prairie Public. "I feel like the Democratic Party has leadership that is not for sale. My loyalty and my duty is to the people of North Dakota, to our lands, to our rivers, and to everybody who chooses to come back, chooses to make their home here and to have their family here."
Iron Eyes says it will take a lot of work – and money – to win in the general election. But he says he’s ready.
