North Dakota Democrats have chosen Rolla State Representative Marvin Nelson as their candidate for Governor.
Nelson was the only name placed in nomination.
In his acceptance speech, Nelson said what pushed him to run for Governor was the story of Wilton firefiigher Geremy Olson, who was seriously burned in a grass fire. Nelson said Olson’s injuries were very serious. but he didn’t receive much help from the state of North Dakota – or from the state’s workers compensation agency, Workforce Safety and Insurance.
"We have to get away from a state that treats its people, the heroes of the state, as if they are criminals," Nelson said. "I could not sit and let this continue."
Nelson also told the convention delegates -- he's ready to run.
"I'm all in," Nelson said. "I'm not running to run. I'm running to win."
Democrats have chosen New Rockford State Senator Joan Heckaman as the candidate for Lieutenant Governor.
