By an unofficial margin of 64% to 35%, North Dakota voters have approved a measure to allow the sale and use of Medical Marijuana.
Riley Ray Morgan is the head of the North Dakota Compassionate Care Act – or Measure Five on Tuesday’s ballot.
“…We’re so pleased with the voters in North Dakota and their compassion and their care of their fellow North Dakotans we could just about scream, we’re so happy.”
Morgan says while the measure has been approved by voters, there is still some heavy lifting to be done.
“…Now the State Department of Health will have rules and regulations they’re going to have to develop. The state Legislature is obviously going to have to give some money to the state Department of Health for maybe some new hires and expenditures. It’s going to take a good 90-days before we see any certain movement on this.”
Morgan says there will also be a need for a non-profit agency to be developed to handle the dispensing and growing of the medical cannabis. He says the actual process of getting the medicine to patients is a ways down the road, but at least the wheels are turning. Morgan says while states like North Dakota have spoken up, the federal government will ultimately have to step up and address the issue.
