NDUS adding Cyber Security Education and Research programs

ND University System

North Dakota’s University System is stepping up its game when it comes to cyber-security education and research.

"When we did the workforce advisory council the Legislature had us do, we identified the vast majority of companies felt uncertain, and needing more cyber-security training on the prart of their workforce," said NDUS Chancellor Mark Hagerott.

North Dakota State University has now established an institute for Cyber Security Education and Research.  Hagerott said that program will offer bachelor’s to doctorate degrees.  And Hagerott said NDSU will partner with other schools in that program. He also said Bismarck State College is leading the effort for the two year schools, to offer certificates and associate degrees.

"What we have found is that if we have North Dakota kids getting these certificates and degrees, they're much more likely to stay here," Hagerott said. "And this is becoming a real need, not only for government, but for business, and for our own campuses."

Kendall Nygard has been named the founding director of NDSU’s Institute for Cyber Security and Research.
