Sabbaticals for Artists ~ Highlights from the ND Governor's Awards for the Arts

Michelle Keller

Wednesday, January 15, 2020 – Sabbaticals, which typically involve a year away from work, allow time for researching, writing a book, or deepening your connection to your work in a meaningful way. They're not uncommon in academic settings, and now there’s an effort to use the concept to help artists. Brandon LaPlante and Britta Anderson are teaming up as “The Tired Artists” to raise money to fund sabbaticals for local, established artists. They join us, along with David Borlaug of The Capital Gallery, which is serving as the project's fiscal host. ~~~ Speaking of the arts, Bill Thomas shares some highlights from the North Dakota Governor's Awards for the Arts as we learn about two of the recipients, John Gross of Napoleon, honored in the category of cultural treasure; and Annette Hovey of New Rockford, honored for Arts in Education.
