Egg Month
1/16/2013: On this date in January in 1954, eggs were uppermost in many people’s minds, as Gov. Norman Brunsdale had proclaimed January to be “egg month” in North Dakota. The governor said that, “North Dakota farmers produce many food products that contribute to the economic stability and general good health of the State and Nation. Of great importance in the diet and unusual significance to the economic welfare are eggs.” He urged North Dakotans to eat more eggs during the month, and throughout the coming year.
Financial Crisis
2/10/2013: The Bank of North Dakota announced in the State Legislature that it was unable to meet the state’s payroll on this date in 1921.
Lincoln’s Birthday and 1909 Pennies
2/12/2013: Today we celebrate the birthdate of Abraham Lincoln. Born in 1809 in a log cabin in Kentucky, Lincoln had less than a year of formal schooling, yet he had ambitions that led him to become a lawyer, congressman, and president of the U.S. he brought the country through the ordeal of the Civil War and became an icon of presidential greatness for many.

2/15/2013: The city of Fargo welcomed the 1st North Dakota Infantry home from Mexico on this date in 1917. The men returned after serving eight months on the border as part of the Mexican Expedition under U.S. General John Pershing.

2/16/2013: On this date in 1912, the Tioga Gazette notified its readers that a motorized ferry would be installed north of Charlson in McKenzie County as soon as the ice went out.

3/21/2013: On this date in 1931, “Swede” Risberg’s name showed up in a Bismarck Tribune newspaper article about a car accident near Harvey. One of the drivers, Pierce Scott, died when he was thrown from his vehicle.
