2/17/2013:
It had been a cold week in 1955. With temperatures hitting 20 below, it was not fit for man nor beast. A story in the Hettinger County Herald proved the point on this date when it reported that a big, yellow cat had found a place to stay warm—inside the hood of a car at a gas station. The cat was flushed from his perch, but it crawled under the hood again as the car was leaving. The staff chased him out, but he remained in the station, and the newspaper wrote:
“If this is someone’s pet, better build him a cat house and feed him milk. Otherwise, he’s going to sit on a bare spark plug wire or hot exhaust pipe and – WOW!”
