On this date in 1920, the Ward County Independent published this notice:
“Chester Jacobson, Minot’s aviator, has arranged to add parachute leaps from his airplane as one of his attractions during the coming season.
“Who wants the job? It doesn’t really take any previous experience. All you have to do is to accompany Mr. Jacobson a mile or so into the air and at the proper time, grab the parachute and jump. If the parachute opens nicely, you have nothing to fear. If it doesn’t—well, that’s another story. You’d be having a high old time till you landed, anyway.”
But the job was already taken—by a Mr. Knudson, Jacobson’s mechanic.
