Dave Osborn

3/18/2007:

Dave Osborn was a fine football player at Cando High School who went on to be a standout running back for the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux. He was drafted in the thirteenth round of the 1965 draft by the Minnesota Vikings. It was a favorite time for Vikings fans in this area because for most of his career, Dave was a teammate of the Concordia College graduate, defensive lineman, Gary Larson, of the “Purple People Eaters” fame. Dave and his backfield running mate, fullback Bill Brown, weren’t flashy, but they got the job done, leading the Vikes to their first Superbowl appearance in 1969, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 23-7. Osborne did score the only Vikings TD of the game. Even though North Dakota and Cando in particular, claim Dave as their own, he was born on this date, March 18th, 1943 in Everett Washington.
