Long before there was Datebook, small town newspapers were the source of interesting information for North Dakota events. However, slow news days could create interesting but highly suspicious news,
The Starkweather Times reported on this day in 1907 that a farmer west of town wanted to remove a rock, so he fetched a stick of dynamite. He set the dynamite down for a minute and a nearby pig ate it. The pig then walked into a stall where a team of mules were tied and one mule kicked the pig setting off the dynamite. The explosion killed one of the mules, stripped the harness off the other and blew the end out of the barn, and... it nearly killed the pig!
