3/23/2008:
On this day, March 23, 2007, the movie Red Tail Reborn was released on DVD. Red Tail Reborn tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first and only African American pilots of WWII. Despite opposition to their service, the Tuskegee Airmen proved adept pilots; boasting one of the best combat records in American history.
Red Tail Reborn also chronicles the efforts of the Red Tail Project, a group of airplane enthusiasts who work to preserve the legacy of these African American fighter pilots. To better illustrate the airmen’s history, the Red Tail Project is restoring a P-51C Mustang, the same plane flown by the Tuskegee Airmen.
Partially filmed in North Dakota, Red Tail Reborn highlights the restoration work completed by Gerry Beck and Tri-State Aviation of Wahpeton, North Dakota; work that will help keep the memory of the Tuskegee Airmen alive for years to come.
