Arrowood Dam

9/4/2010:

On this date in 1931, bids were taken for building the Arrowood Dam in Stutsman County. Carl Liberg, of Jamestown, received the contract at a price of $2,327. He and his team of five men began almost immediately to clear and excavate for the dam.

Soon, various old tales of a buried treasure in that vicinity began to resurface. One of the more common yarns said a lone survivor of an Indian attack had stashed some gold down a badger hole, then lost it. Citizens began searching in earnest, before it could be covered by the dam.

There was not much time for that, as the dam was set to be completed by the beginning of October... but perhaps the speed of construction was a treasure in itself.
