Call it “The tax man waiteth” – a late-comers dream made true. Time didn’t exactly stand still a year ago today, but it did slow down the income tax deadline for procrastinators and made for a special North Dakota week.
North Dakota Tax Commissioner Cory Fong gave North Dakota taxpayers three extra days to file and pay their taxes. The extended due date from April 15 to 18 was in recognition of the Emancipation Day holiday in the District of Columbia. The unique D.C. holiday observance, because it interfered with tax filing day, helped all the nation’s citizens garner an extra 72 hours before the filing deadline.
There was no follow-up report to find out how many die-hard last minute filers missed the extended deadline as well.
