Fiscal 2014 was a good year for the North Dakota Mill and Elevator.
The state owned mill reported a $13.3 million profit – the second largest in its history.
"It's mainly driven by demand for our flour, and run time," said Mill manager Vance Taylor. "Our shipments went up by a pretty nice amount. We also had a very nice wheat crop to work with."
Vance Taylor says the mill did experience some problems due to delays in rail cars.
"We experienced 25 plant shutdowns due to a lack of rail cars arriving," said Taylor. "That's improved somewhat this summer. But transit times for our cars is still way above what we were seeing before all of this started taking place."
Taylor says the next fiscal year is looking good. He says the wheat crop looks great – but that could be hampered a bit by continued delays in rail shipping. And he says there is some evidence of disease in wheat in areas that have received a lot of late season rain.
