North Dakota Outright Hopes for more Community Outreach

A Bismarck organization is hosting events to raise awareness of gay pride throughout the state.

North Dakota Outright has existed for nearly 15 years. The focus of the group is community outreach through events such as Summer Pride and Drag Shows. Recently the group has started an anti bullying campaign in schools.

Andrew Adams is the President of the Board of Directors for North Dakota Outright.

“We’ve also been starting to try and focus on getting into schools to do a program called Safe Space which fosters an environment in the classroom where they do not tolerate bullying or anti-GLBT language or talk essentially,” Adams said. “So it creates a safe place for all students, not just GLBT students.”

Adams said North Dakota Outright is hopeful this summer’s events will be more popular than years before. This summer will be the third annual Summer Pride event.

“We would also like to see more outreach as far as community involvement; maybe be more involved in some parades,” Adams said. “We are really just waiting for feedback and looking for people to help us, get involved, and do more as an organization.”

Summer Pride will take place August 3 at the Ramada in Bismarck. Adams said the group’s Facebook page has an events list posted.
