Farmers and ranchers in Bowman County saw wet conditions and their highest level of prevent plant acres this spring, and officials with the Extension Service say the abundant moisture continues…
“…When you talk to producers in this area, and people who have lived in southwest North Dakota their whole life, it’s always a joke – you say “You never talk bad about the moisture because you never know when it’s going to turn off.”
Bowman County Extension Agent Andrea Bowman says that may have been the feeling growers had during the month of July, but the idea of dry conditions was struck down Tuesday night…
“…We received anywhere from one to seven inches of moisture throughout the county. So we’re definitely wet again.”
Bowman says while the moisture caused some troubles at the start of the year, it has proven beneficial as the summer moves along. She says the sun and rains have meant good things for pasture lands and for producers putting up hay…
“…And we have a lot of cattle here, a lot of pasture land that the moisture has been great for that. And now this late season moisture will help with regrowth as well.”
Bowman says overall it has been a good season for an area used to seeing very dry or even drought conditions.
