UND nickname vote to take place in mid-October

The University of North Dakota has announced the dates for voting on their new nickname.

Current students, faculty and staff are eligible to vote, as well as alumni, donors, season ticket holders and retirees.  UND spokesman Peter Johnson says voting will open on Monday, October 19 and close on Friday, October 23.

"The polls will open up at 8am on October 19 - a Monday, and close at midnight on Friday, October 23.  So folks will have five days to vote on their choice of nickname options."

The final five nickname options are Roughriders, Fighting Hawks, Nodaks, Sundogs and North Stars.  The online-only vote is being conducted by Qualtrics, a third-party technology provider.  Eligible voters will receive an email from Qualtrics with voting instructions the week before voting opens.  Qualtrics will tally the votes when voting closes, and will release the results of the vote the week of October 26.  If any of the names receive at least 50 percent of the vote, that name will be the new nickname for UND.
