A number of cyclists from the Western North Dakota Synod of the Lutheran Church have embarked on a three-day ride – designed to bring awareness about world hunger.
They left Bismarck this morning (Tuesday).
Lisa Plorin is from Upham. She’s one of the organizers of this third annual ride. Plorin is also the executive board president for the national group “Women of the ELCA.”
"One of the missions of the ELCA is to alleviate hunger," Plorin said. "So we're out doing our part."
Plorin said prior to the ride, they were all asked to do some fundraising.
"We will be stopping at local churches, educating them on hunger issues," Plorin said. "We support the issue globally, nationally and locally."
Plorin said the bike ride is a lot of fun.
"This group is kind of fun to hang out with, too," Plorin said.
This is the second year for Mike Olson of McGregor, North Dakota – a small town north of Tioga.
"Mostly, it's to raise awareness to the fact there are more than 38 million people that are hungry in the world today," Olson said.
The riders will go to Sterling, Driscoll, McKenzie and Lincoln. The ride concludes in Bismarck Thursday.
