With Mark Kennedy leaving the University of North Dakota, the Board of Higher Education is beginning to lay out the steps to replace him.
Kennedy has been hired as the President of the University of Colorado. He starts his new job June 15.
University System Chancellor Mark Hagerott said the plan is to hire an interim President, and have that person on board by June 15. Hagerott said he hopes to have someone in mind by the May board meeting.
"Then by the June board meeting, the board will select a co-chair for the search process," Hagerott said. "Typically, the campus would have a co-chair, and the board has a co-chair."
Hargerott said the process begins then to seek nominations for the search committee.
"The hope is to have a new permanent president selected late this year or early in the new year," Hagerott said.
Hagerott said he thinks the UND Presidency will attract a number of very good candidates. He said that’s helped by the change in state law, in that the names of applicants are kept confidential until the final three are chosen.
