NDSU dedicates garden on Indigenous People's Day

Monday was Indigenous People’s Day.

In Fargo, the day was marked by a groundbreaking for the new “Grandmother Earth’s Gift of Life Garden" on the NDSU campus.

NDSU president Dean Bresciani said the garden represents part of an overall agenda, to become a model for inclusion and respect for all people.

"My hope is by locating this garden in this location, both the campus community and the surrounding community will see it as a conversation starter," Bresciani said at the cermony. "Tell me more about the garden, tell me more about indigenous people. And the opportunity for this to be an educational resource, as well as a resource for campus diversity and inclusion efforts, is really outstanding."

Bresciani said he has also formed a President’s Council for Diversity, Inclusion and Respect – one of two councils with the Presidential name attached.
