Howe announces for Secretary of State

A West Fargo legislator has announced for North Dakota Secretary of State.

35-year-old Michael Howe (R-West Fargo) is a member of the state House of Representatives. He represents District 22. He has served in the legislature since 2017.

The current Secretary of State – Al Jaeger – is retiring when his term ends, at the end of the year.

Howe announced this morning by sending a short video. He talked about elections, which is the purview of the Secretary of State.

"Democrats in Washington are trying to nationalize our elections," Howe said. "They want to allow non-citizens to vote, ban voter ID laws, and use taxpayer dollars to fund their campaign. I will fight every day to make sure that doesn't happen. North Dakotans should always be in charge of North Dakota elections."

Howe said he also wants to reduce “red tape,” to make it easier for businesses to start up in North Dakota.

No other candidate has formally announced for Secretary of State.
