MDU granted 6.3 percent interim electric rate increase

The North Dakota Public Service Commission has granted MDU an interim electric rate increase, effective July 15th.

In May, MDU filed for a 12.3 percent increase in rates. If the full amount was approved, an average residential customer would see the monthly bill increase by $14.94.

State law says MDU is entitled to an interim increase.

The interim granted by the PSC is 6.3 percent. Commissioner staff said this would raise the bill for an average residential customer by $5.09 per month.

Formal hearings on the overall rate increase have not yet been set.

AARP has asked to intervene in the case.
