It might have been hard to imagine at the first United Tribes Technical College International Powwow in 1970 just how popular the event would become over the next 55 years. The annual event draws thousands of visitors to Bismarck each late summer.

Buffalo's Fire Senior Reporter Brian Bull captured some of the sounds and history of this weekend's big event and described the economic impact to North Dakota's capital city.

Brian Bull is a proud member of the Nez Perce Tribe, whose work has appeared in Indian Country Today, The Oregonian, People Magazine, National Native News, and NPR stations in South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Oregon.

Bull is now working as a Senior Reporter for Buffalo's Fire.
