For Labor Day, Main Street guest host Bill Thomas presents several interviews from Studs Terkel's book (later made into a musical), "Working." The Radio Diaries Project got the tapes of the original interviews from the early 1970s. Some are updated with reflections, from the same people, 40 years later. They are people talking about the work they do.
Landis Larson is the President of the North Dakota AFL-CIO, Pamela Trhlik is the First Vice President. They came in to our Bismarck studio for a wide-ranging discussion of the labor movement in North Dakota.
A couple of extra bits for the show — a segment of a poem from Jamie Parsley; and then two actors from the Fargo-Moorhead Community Theatre recite the poem "Seven Citizens" by North Dakota poet David Solheim (used by his permission). More about David Solheim at Buffalo Commons Press.
