Bear Grease is a theater play that reimagines the classic musical Grease with an Indigenous twist. Like the original, the play is set in the 1950s and follows the story of Sandy, a young Indigenous woman who moves to a new town and falls in love with Danny, a member of the Greasers gang. The play explores themes of love, loss, friendship, and identity, and it features an all-Indigenous cast. The play is full of Indigenous humor and pride. Bear Grease will be performed in three communities in North Dakota: Bismarck, Fargo, and Fort Totten, from August 8-12, 2023.
