Dr. John Miller named acting President of Williston State College

Williston State College

After announcing he would step down as president of Williston State College in 2017, Dr. Raymond Nadolny has decided to leave now – to spend more time with family.

His resignation became effective Monday.

WSC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. John Miller, has been named Acting President. Miller says he’s honored by the appointment.

"The most important thing I'm going to be doing is making sure we have a smooth transition from Dr. Nadolny to our next President," Miller said. "We need to make sure we are taking care of things that are really important."

Miller said one of those things is managing growth.

"We know we're going to have growth again on campus," Miller said. "We have to make sure all those pieces fall together, and folks are very calm, very professional, and there's not a while lot of drama. We've got great people here, and it will be exactly like that -- calm and professional."

But Miller says he worries about the effect the growth will have on an already-stretched faculty.

"It's good, because in a time of tight budgets, the extra tuition money helps," Miller said. "But it stretches our faculty. We don't have a whole lot of extra faculty, adjunct faculty, falling out of trees in Williston. So it falls on existing faculty to pick up the load."

But Miller says WSC faculty have been great – and have been doing what they can to help.

Miller says he will remain as Acting President until an interim President is named.  When asked if he would be interested in the permanent President’s job, Miller said yes.

"I am thrilled to work at Williston State," Miller said. "I think we have a good thing going. And I do want to lead us into the next chapter of WSC history, if I get the chance."

Miller came to Williston State a year ago from the College of Southern Idaho, where he was an instructional dean.
