Come this fall, Goodrich will no longer have its own high school.
It will enter a co-op with McClusky High School.
"Declining enrollment," is the reason given by Goodrich Superintendent and Principal Rodney Scherbenske.
Goodrich will keep a K-6 grade school, and grades 7 to 12 will go to McClusky.
Scherbenske said next year, Goodrich would have had 4 students in 7-12, and he says McClusky would have 15 students.
"Very few kids left in Sheridan County, between both schools," Scherbenske said.
The Goodrich school board wants to keep the elementary school open, because of travel issues.
"It's about 45 miles to Harvey," Scherbenske said. "To the east is Carrington, which is 50 miles. To the South is Kidder County, which is at Steele, and there's Wing schools, and those are 30 to 40 miles away."
McClusky is to the west, about 18 miles from Goodrich.
But Scherbenske said with open enrollment, some parents may choose to send their children to some of the other schools.
Scherbenske has been at the Goodrich School since 1973.
