In 1957, Corbin A. Waldron was added to an honored list of writers when he was named North Dakota Poet Laureate by the State Legislature.
Waldron served in the Student's Army Training Corps in Fargo during WWI. After his discharge on this date in 1918, he studied law at the University of Minnesota. Graduating in 1927, he chose Minot as his permanent residence, founding the law firm Waldron, Kenner & Halvorson.
Wherever his work took him, Waldron found time to write poetry; a practice he began at the age of 10. Using the pen name "Dakota Cal," he produced several hymns and books of verse, including ‘Lines from Dakota' and ‘Falling Leaves.'
North Dakota Poet Laureate Corbin Waldron died in Minot in 1978 shortly after finishing his final work, a children's book entitled ‘The Adventures of Pedro the Polar Bear.'
