John H. Hoeven

4/24/2011:

The announcement came on this date that John Hoeven of Minot would seek the Republican endorsement for Lt. Governor. As a Minot banker and graduate of Dartmouth College, he had served as a longtime Ward County campaign worker, but only now had he decided to run for office. But this time, John Hoeven would not be successful as he was beaten by Richard Larsen of Grand Forks with the final vote of 517 to 403. For you see this happened in 1968, and this was John H. Hoeven, Junior. It was his son, John H. Hoeven, III, who thirty-two years later succeeded in his bid for Governor and later went on to win a seat in the United States Senate.
