Fargoans on the Hitler List

7/29/2012:

Walter Stockwell, the Grand Secretary of the Masonic Grand Lodge of North Dakota claimed an unusual recognition this date in 1945. Stockwell and fellow Fargoan Lynn Stambaugh learned their names were found on a list of “enemies of the Third Reich.” Contents from the Adolph Hitler’s papers identifying enemies were reported by Fargo native C. Warner Litten, a U.S. Army Lieutenant commanding a detail that raided a German town. According to the Fargo Forum, the documents were part of a host of papers and records that Lt. Litten was able to examine.

Stambaugh said he “enjoyed the classification as an enemy of the Third Reich.” Stockwell expressed equal pride, saying, “I consider that a real honor.”
