The Great American Folk Show: Episode 7

The Great American Folk Show is a little place on the radio where we commune with you to share stories, sing songs, and talk to some good people with great voices.

Episode 7 features musicians Grant-Lee Phillips, Tre Burt, Sebastian Steinberg, and Sofia Wolfson; and Hilary Saunders from No Depression magazine.

Sebastian Steinberg has a lot of history in the music business. He was part of the band Soul Coughing in the early ‘90s, has toured with acts such as the Dixie Chicks and Iron & Wine, and worked as a session musician with Neil Diamond, Dido, Bic Runga, and more. In 2020, Sebastian co-produced Fiona Apple’s highly acclaimed album, Fetch The Bolt Cutters (Epic / Clean Slate), and even contributed some original music.

Sebastian’s song “My Kettle My Cats” is the rhythmic inspiration behind Fiona Apple’s song, “Relay,” from Fetch The Bolt Cutters. Listen to the two songs below for a fun comparison.

The Great American Folk Show is written, recorded, and hosted by folksinger and songwriter Tom Brosseau, announced by Joe Wiegand, produced by Prairie Public Broadcasting. Original instrumentation by Burkum Boys. Additional music by Sean Watkins. Special flyer design by DLT.
