Click It or Ticket enforcement period begins November 1

North Dakota Dept of Transportation

So far, 90 roadway fatalities in North Dakota were individuals who were not wearing seat belts.

Law enforcement agencies across North Dakota will be increasing their presence on roadways as part of its next Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign.

Lauren Bjork is Safety Information Program Manager with the North Dakota Department of Transportation. She says the enforcement will run from November 1 to December 16 – and officers will be encouraging motorists everywhere to buckle up.

Bjork says 2021 has been a deadly year on North Dakota roads.

"Unfortunately, right now in 2021 we are sitting at 90 fatalities this year. That is trending higher than we were in 2020; at this time last year, we were at 83. So right now, more than ever, we are asking people to take personal responsibility on the road. Number one - buckling up, but also driving sober, distraction free, and following posted speed limits."

54 percent of roadway fatalities in North Dakota this year have been due to no seat belt use. Bjork says seat belts are the single most effective safety measure drivers and passengers can take.
