ND University System launches 'Career-Builders' program

A new program is available through the North Dakota University System, that provides a skilled workforce scholarship and student loan repayment plan.

It’s called “ND Career Builders.”

"It's a statewide effort to recruit and retain talent for the state's high need and emerging occupations," said System vice-chancellor for administrative affairs, and the system's chief financial officer.

Dolan said half the program is dedicated to scholarships. She said students will work with their colleges, to see if they are in a program that meets the qualifications.

"It has to be in an area that addresses the state's highest workforce needs," Dolan said. "The students will work with their institutions to try to find matching dollars."
Dolan said it is a one-to-one match, meaning for every state dollar, the college must raise a dollar from other sources.

"Those funds would then be applied for tuition and other costs," Dolan said.

The eligible programs were identified by the North Dakota Workforce Development Council and North Dakota Job Service.

"One of the requirements is the student has to agree to live and work in the state for a number of years, after they graduate or receive certificates," Dolan said.

Interested students can apply for the program through the North Dakota University System website.
